When people ask us, “When’s the best time to visit Romania?”, we always say — it depends on what you love!
Romania is one of Europe’s few true “four-season” countries. From wildflowers in spring and mountain roads in summer, to golden forests in autumn and snow-covered villages in winter — there’s always something special here, if you know where to look.
We live here. And the truth is, every month has its own magic.
So here’s our honest, local guide to choosing your perfect moment to discover Romania.
Spring: Villages in Bloom
When: March to May
Spring is when Romania wakes up — village gardens burst into colour, forests fill with wildflowers, and sheep return to the hills.
This is the perfect time for gentle countryside walks, fresh cheese tastings, and exploring medieval cities like Brasov and Sibiu before the summer crowds arrive.
Local tip: Bring layers — the weather can be sunny and warm, but spring showers love a surprise visit!
I sink under the weight of the splendour of these visions!A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which
Summer: High Roads & Hidden Trails
When: June to August
Summer is when Romania’s famous mountain routes — like the Transfagarasan and Transalpina — open fully. If you love road trips, hiking, or cycling, this is your season.
You can also drift through the Danube Delta: spot pelicans, fish with locals, and sleep in simple guesthouses by the water.
Local tip: Famous spots can get busy — so we always share hidden villages or secret sunrise times with our guests. That’s our soul promise.
Autumn: Wine, Colours & Slow Days Winter: Magic & Tradition
When: September to November
Ask any local — autumn is Romania’s best-kept secret. The hills and forests glow gold and red, vineyards buzz with harvest, and guesthouses cook hearty, seasonal food.
This is the perfect time for wine tasting in regions like Dealu Mare or Dragasani, slow walks through Saxon villages, and photography that looks like an old painting.
Local tip: September and October give you the best of everything — mild weather, lower prices, and peaceful villages.
When: December to February
In winter, Romania feels like an old fairytale — snow blankets the wooden houses of Maramures, churches ring out with carols, and villagers warm your hands with plum brandy.
Ski resorts like Poiana Brasov are lively, but our favourite part is the old traditions that come alive: masks, folk dances, and tables full of homemade cakes.
Local tip: Pack warm! The cold makes the mulled wine and fresh bread by a wood stove taste even better.
